A Message of Thanks

As the McCaskey Alumni Association receives many dues payments and extra gifts from renewing members, we wish to express our immense gratitude to the McCaskey family.

We find ourselves in a most trying chapter of human history—globally, nationally, and in our own beloved corner of the earth. On April 9, Governor Tom Wolf announced the cancellation of Pennsylvania schools for the remainder of the academic year as a precaution against the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. The McCaskey Alumni Association staff has vacated its offices on the 2nd floor of J.P. McCaskey High School, which will remain closed for the longest period since it welcomed its first group of students in 1938.

An unprecedented challenge is before us. As the historical archivists for McCaskey High School, we know that there is no challenge too great for our community to meet. In 1918, the city’s high school prudently extended its summer break by two months to allow “the Great Influenza” to dissipate. The yearbook records that the Class of 1919 went on to “set a high standard in all phases of school activity for the guidance of future generations.” Without doubt, they accomplished this with the support of their neighbors, many of whom were thoughtful alumni like you.

With your membership renewal (or new membership!) to the McCaskey Alumni Association, at a time when its service to the School District of Lancaster is most needed, you have set yourself apart in your loyalty to the place that shaped you. Your gifts have brightened our vision for the future—a future in which our efforts to enrich the lives of McCaskey students grows stronger every year.  Working from our respective homes we recognize, thanks to your goodness, that challenges come and go. McCaskey Pride is forever.
